Whenever I talk to newer therapists, they always say the same thing. “What if I make a mistake?” “What if I say the wrong thing?” I hate to break it to them, but I always tell them that… well, they’re going to. Everyone screws up sometimes.
As I enter my sixth year of seeing clients, I am not immune to this. I’ve been seeing lots of new people lately - for some reason I got a huge influx of new clients after the holidays. While this is good for business, it can also be super exhausting. Initial assessments can be long, repetitive, and sometimes pretty intense. As an introvert, I was bound to slip at some point. And last week, I did.
